Over the past four years, Armel Traore Dit Nignan has been deeply engaged in supporting the Waukee Community School District. As a committed school board member, Armel actively participates in key committees and advocates for policies that prioritize student success and well-being.
Armel’s involvement extends beyond local governance. He represented Waukee in Capital Crossroads, a regional initiative focused on improving quality of life across Central Iowa. Through this role, he collaborated with community and business leaders on issues like education, housing, and workforce development, ensuring Waukee’s voice shapes the region’s future (Capital Crossroads housing tour).

He also serves on the Dallas County Conference Board, connecting district interests with county decisions affecting schools and taxpayers.
Armel actively advocates at the Iowa Capitol to support policies that benefit Waukee students, educators, and families, ensuring their voices shape important education decisions (see his letter to legislators on adequate funding here).
In addition to governance and advocacy, Armel regularly attends school events—from the Middle School State Track and Field Meet (Track and Field Meet) to graduation ceremonies (Graduation Ceremony Highlights) and award celebrations like the Warrior and Wolf Awards (Warrior and Wolf Awards)—showcasing his ongoing commitment to students.
Armel and the Waukee School Board were honored with the 2024 Iowa Association of School Boards Team Achievement Award, recognizing their dedication to professional development and effective leadership.

As an IASB Student Board Ambassador, Armel was selected as one of a small group of Iowa school board members for an exclusive two-day leadership training. This program equips ambassadors with advanced skills and advocacy tools to better serve their districts and represent student interests statewide.
Through his service and engagement, Armel has been a strong advocate for students statewide, actively promoting student-centered policies and enhancing community involvement.
